Winter Crusade: Fuming Mouth & Mourned w/ High Command and Hivemind @ O'Briens

Fuming Mouth and Mourned return home from tour and end it with a bang at O'Brien's with an over capacity show. Out of the many many bands I've seen in my lifetime I think I've seen both bands more times than any others and they never get old. Death Metal.

Hivemind
Genre: Deathcore FFO: Whitechapel

Opening the show was Hivemind. I'll be honest, this band's sound didn't appeal to me very much. One thing everyone noticed was they were young kids. If it was 2010, these guys would probably be pretty big. One thing they do different than most deathcore bands is they actually had some slam riffs worked in to their music but still had fast death metal parts that flowed well. I gotta give that drummer some credit too with those blast beats. Again not much appeal to someone like me, but kids making this music is pretty cool.

High Command
Genre: Crossover Thrash FFO: Iron Age, 3 Inches of Blood, Eternal Champion

Welcome to the bloodstained battleground. Sharpen your axe and put on your war paint maggot, its time for bloodshed! Heads will roll! Victory is upon us! Let's hear that war cry!
High Command brought the image of a medieval battle ground to the pub. The vocalist let out a war cry as he raised his sword...literally. All I could think of was the time I saw Eternal Champion as the atmosphere was very similar. High Command's music is very similar to Iron Age but with the lyrics being even more medieval. Think if the three bands above trained warriors and prepared them for a heavy metal war against orcs and dragons. The thrashiest of riffs caused a war in the pit with fans moshing left and right, preparing them for the bands to come. It's the sword the vocalist had that was really the icing on the cake. When it comes to what people call "local bands" High Command aren't afraid to add flare to a performance. This is one of the coolest bands ever.

Mourned
Genre: Death Metal FFO: Dying Fetus, Behemoth, Deicide

Death Metal. Mourned were brought a big welcome home this night. The chaos was brought about almost immediately from the first song. I've never seen these guys play with so much passion. You could see it in their movements. Mourned were shredding as hard as they ever have. They really are the type of band that only gets better and better each time. Vocalist, Billy Nicholls, stated how happy the band was to have toured with their brothers in Fuming Mouth and stated everyone needs to give them their support and without them, Mourned wouldn't be a band. You bet your ass Mark from Fuming Mouth did his part in Orison and nailed it. When they played the song Ravenous Torment, during the pause, drummer, Dave stood up and you could hear him scream "Come On!" as the heavy riff entered and destruction was risen. they band would constantly throughout the night be throwing up the metal horns and the crowd followed. I can't get tired of hearing the song Rift Ripper live, probably my favorite song of theirs. Its so fucking metal, kid. Overall I'd say best set these guys have played was this one, tons of energy on both sides. I have fucked every member of this band.

Fuming Mouth
Genre: Death Metal FFO: Mammoth Grinder, Gatecreeper, Entombed

The kings time to shine. Opening with Executioner's Sabbath, the crowd followed immediately with ruckus. I swear Mark sounded even more demonic than usual with his vicious pipes. Members of Mourned moshed the hardest for their friends obliterating ever bystander in the way. Mark stated he loves Hivemind, and High Command is the coolest band ever from Mass. He mentioned a few years ago he booked Outer Heaven to play a show in Worcester and Mourned opened it. Not many people showed up and he delayed the show for two hours just so more people could see Mourned. I'm sure everyone that went to that show was glad he did. Upon hearing Sword and Scale, the drum part in the beginning of the song caused a hurricane of moshers flying back and forth. I'm honestly shocked no one slammed into the support post in the middle of the pub. There was even a fight between two people that went literally all around the room. I think it was sorted out considering both of them were there until the end of the set. The last time I got to see Fuming Mouth, they opened for Ghostemane and a ton of people were throwing trash cans and fighting each other and punching security guards and whatever else, but this show was at a smaller venue that was over sold and had probably just as much energy. Really glad both Fuming Mouth and Mourned are getting the support they deserve. Death Metal.
