Welcome to 2005. Your hair is long and hanging over your face, you have plugs in your ears, you just got home from hot topic and log on to MySpace and got melted listening to The Number Twelve Looks Like You. A very fun trip down memory lane with Rolo Tomassi who I never would've expected to ever come to the states, and a  new one for me, Cryptodira.

Cryptodira
Genre: Progressive Death Metal/Post-Metal FFO: Gojira, Converge, The Ocean

Cryptodira I've listened to briefly after hearing that they were touring with Shai Hulud I believe two or three years ago and I couldn't remember the sound, I just remember them being post-metal-ish. Whether they changed or not since then, their sound was rather incomparable to most. For the most part it seemed like sludgey death metal but occasionally you would hear a technical and sometimes even mathy riff that is exaggerated but fits into the song without being too obnoxious. One minute you could be hearing EyeHateGod, then Obscura, into Gojira, and then straight Dillinger. Definitely impressed me to say the least. Gotta say, I praise them for the creativity and experimentation, however I can't say they're anything I would choose to listen to in my spare time. Definitely worth seeing them live.

Rolo Tomassi
Genre: Mathcore/Experimental FFO: iwrestledabearonce, Genghis Tron, Heavy Heavy Low Low

I haven't heard the name Rolo Tomassi in years. I would've assumed they were broken up if it wasn't for this tour. I couldn't wait to experience the chaos they were about to bring. They walked out, and vocalist, Eva Spence said "We're Rolo Tomassi from England, let's do this!" she seemed like such a sweet and beautiful young woman. As soon as they started a huge circle pit spawned and the beautiful angel instantly transformed into a screeching banshee. The band had just as much energy as the crowd. Eva was constantly dancing with the music and the second vocalist, James Spence, couldn't stay in the same spot when he wasn't doing keyboards. Eva stated that this was Rolo Tomassi's first proper US tour and it definitely showed from the crowd reaction. Overall the sound was perfect and the odd timing was spot on. Glad to see Boston welcomed Rolo Tomassi to the states with a bang. Can't wait till they come back.

The Number Twelve Looks Like You
Genre: Experimental/Mathcore/Jazz Fusion/Grindcore/Metalcore/Screamo
FFO: Heavy Heavy Low Low, Daughters, Fear Before the March of Flames

The stage was set, the banner in the background, the creatively painted drum rims, and a line of lanterns across the back of the stage. There were cameras everywhere. The band walked out and began. Welcome to Nuclear. Sad. Nuclear. What a show. What a crowd. What a band. Everyone waited years for The #12 to come back. Despite only having only two original members and going from six to four, they still know how to put on a show. Endless chaos throughout the night. 2005 style push pits with 30 year olds with beards who we all know had swoop hair and a selfie taken with a digital camera as their MySpace photo. The band did play the album in its entirety. The lightning was either just the lanterns in the background, blinding seizure inducing strobe lights, or just plain darkness. Vocalist, Jesse Korman, would constantly be in motion. He was hanging on the pipe above the stage countless times, screaming in the security guards face on the side of the stage or just straight up be in the crowd. At one point he was on a fan's shoulders travelling all around the room hi fiving the entire crowd. For the song, Remembrance Dialogue, he randomly had a mega phone and screamed into it towards the crowd. After finishing the album, they decide to play one more which turned into one more after that....and then another after that. I couldn't remember the name of the first encore, but the second was the song I was waiting for, "Don't get Blood on My Prada Shoes" needless to say, there was blood on some prada shoes. With the crowd screaming for one more, The #12 finally played it: Jay Walking Backwards. What a night. Fuck 2017, 2005 forever!
