Field of Vision Demo Review
https://fieldofvision.bandcamp.com/releases
Genre: Metalcore FFO: Martyr AD, Soul Search, Hatebreed
My first review involved this band and I have been anticipating this release ever since. Field of Vision contains 2/5 of south shore death metal band Mourned (Dave on drums, Brendan on guitar and bass) and of course Neil Murray on vocals. The first track, Field of Vision, starts with riffs very reminiscent of bands like Martyr AD and crushing heavy breakdowns which are heard constantly throughout the release with Guest vocals from Zach "Legs" Ganshirt (Taman Shud, Transitions, ex-Do No Harm). Neil's powerful vocals pair up well with these riffs to create an aural assault of hardcore that makes you want to punch through a wall with someone else's face. The second track, After Image continues with the heavy riffs and Soul Search style fillers, with occasional, dare I say blackened riffs that make me personally think of Underoath's first two blackened metalcore albums, eventually, there is a guest spot from the lord of Mourned himself, Billy Nichols. If you didn't know Billy, from hearing him on this record you would think he weighs 400lbs. The next track is more of an interlude that starts off with somewhat of a march into a slower riff and then trasitioning into a heavy breakdown. The song then trasitions smoothly into the final track with more Soul Search riffs, that eventually lead into and old school one chorded metalcore breakdown that gets slower as time passes. Overall I'd say this demo was well worth the wait. So far all I've seen is positive feedback. If there's two things that stand out the most to me about this demo, it's definitely the influence from Soul Search mixed with metalcore and Neil's destructively angry voice. Field of Vision is my favorite band.
